Shivanasamudra is the place where the first Hydro-electric Power station in Asia was set up in 1902. Electricity produced from here went on to power the first city in Asia – Kolar Gold Field or KGF. It is located in Malavalli taluk of Mandya District in the Indian state of Karnataka. This place is famous for the hydro – electric project and two waterfalls formed by river Cauvery. Gaganachukki is the largest falls where the tourists mostly go. View gallery has been constructed by the state government there. The Gaganachukki falls from a height of 98 metres and has two segments – the eastern and the western segment. One can go to the buttom of the falls by trekking. But in monsson season, one should be very careful or should avoid going there altogether. The Barachukki falls is about a KM from there but it is quite small and less popular. But to many the Barachukki falls is more beautiful. Shivanasamudra is also known as Bluff.
