Ride on NICE Road, Bangalore
On Tumkur road, the NICE road starts near BIEC (Bangalore International Exhibition Center) – has a intersecting at Magdi road, Mysore road, Bannerghatta road and Kanakapura road. Though this 41 km road is a tolled road, it has helped many people to avoid Bangalore’s traffic mess. It also keeps trucks away from the city roads. But the solitary 6 lane one way road is hugely popular with bikers and car drivers. Earlier youngsters used to go there for drag racing but cops seems have put a ban now. Regular Hoysala police jeeps patrol the road announcing on mike no stopping, no raching.
I have never rode on NICE road untill then. The only time I travelled on NICE was on a bus (the stretch between Mysore road and Bannerghatta road). This time I was on a two wheeler (Scooty Teenz). We decided to enter from Tumkur road side. As we rode towards BIEC, we found the NICE road was closed for a cyclothon till 1 pm. By the time we reached there it was around 12.30 pm. So we decided to go to BIEC and watch the cycle rally and once the road opens we will enter NICE road. Soon the road opened and we were on NICE road. At the toll gate shelled out Rs 13 from Tumkur road – Mysore road. The road is indeed nice but the road quality is not that good. This is a completely signal free road and minimum speed on the first lane is 60 km/hr. Slow vehicles are advised to go in the extreme left hand side. We stopped in between to take a few pictures and encountered a Hoysala jeep on one occassion. We finally exited at Mysore road.
