Marine Drive, Cochin, Kerela

Marine Drive in Cochin is a picturesque promenade between High Court Junction and Rajendra Maidan. In the 1980s Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) reclaimed land from Kochi lake and started the Marine drive project. It is just a walkway unlike a road in Mumbai. They wanted to build a road but due to the coastal protection laws of India in force it was not possible. It is a popular hangout destination for both local people and tourists. Another part of the walkway has been inaugurated by the Kerala chief minister last month. Here a bridge has been modeled on a rice boat. The walkway is facing the backwaters with trees and sitting arrangement.

The GCDA has a shopping complex which offers eateries etc. A lot of high rise apartments has come up or coming up here. On the other side of the backwaters is the Bolgatty palace. One can take a boat ride from the jetty located here. There are two special structure bridges called China net bridge and Rainbow bridge. To enter the marine drive walkway one has to park the vehicle outside. There is a parking fee for that.
