Bull temple is located at Bull temple road in the Basavanagudi area of Bangalore city. Bull temple was built by Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bangalore and is believed to be more than 500 years old. It is one of the most important temples in Bangalore city. A giant nandi (bull) is the deity here. Nandi is an associate of Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology. Nearby, there are few other temples like Ganesha, Valmiki Ashram etc. In the Ganesha temple, the Ganesha idol is completely made up of butter and every 4 years it is broken and distributed among devotees. In kannada Basava means bull, this how Basavanagudi got its name.
