One of the most famous personality and saint philosopher of Karnataka, kanaka Dasa was born in Kaginele of Haveri district. His original name was Thimmappa Nayaka and belonged to a Kuruba family of warriors. He followed and preached Vaishnavism. Kanaka Dasa has done numerous music compositions, songs, novels etc. In Udupi, Kanaka Dasa was not allowed to go inside the Krishna temple by the Brahmins as he was from a lower caste. Then Kanaka Dasa prayed at the backside of the temple and Lord Krishna being overwhelmed with his devotion gave him darshan by creating a crack and idol of Lord Krishna changed its face towards west. This story should be true as almost all Hindu temples face east but here it faces west.
